Ski holidays in Austria, are mostly located at skiing resorts in the west and centre of the country. This is handy not only for Innsbruck and Salzburg airports in Austria itself, but also for Munich airport in Germany.

We focus our attention on the ‘Alberg’ region, which we feel epitomises Austrian ski resorts and offers everything you could want from a ski holiday in Austria.

Lech am Alberg

Lech am Alberg is a prestigious resort that is frequently visited by the Austrian royal family! It boasts over 110 kilometres of piste and also provides access to the entire ‘Alberg’ ski domain.

It is excellent for beginners and intermediates but real experts may have to venture into the Alberg domain to achieve a full challenge of their expertise.

It is a picturesque resort and the skyline is dominated by a dramatic 14 th century church spire. Après ski is lively and look out for the outdoor ‘ice bars’ which serve champagne!!

Zurs am Alberg

Zurs is simply described by locals as the ‘diamond in the snow’. It is a very prestigious resort offering a discreet hideaway to the rich and famous. Need we say more?

St Anton an Alberg

St Anton has a massive 260km piste. It has long been revered as a leading resort, but had become tired until its complete facelift in 2001, resulting in amongst other things eighty one state of the art chair lifts! It has everything you would expect from a leading resort, with a more modern feel to it that neighbouring resorts in the Alberg domain. Excellent for advanced skiers but more than sufficient for everyone else!

All the above resorts have first class après ski that is active into the small hours and the streets are lined with sports shops and boutiques to make sure you have no spare euros at the end of your stay!

There are many resorts to choose from in Austria, but we believe the three above provide all the options you could wish for. Other resorts are good, and we must make particular mention of the unique experience at the high altitude resort at Kuhtai or the opportunity to combine your skiing with a city break in Innsbruck by visiting Igls.

Austria is renowned for its ski holiday industry and if you visit any of the resorts above you may well be visiting year after year.
