Ski chalets are becoming the choice of more and more people as skiers realise just what good value for money they offer. Ski chalets come either catered or self-catered, and are a great choice of acommodation for holidays on the slopes, particularly in France. For those unfamiliar with the concept of ski chalets, they are basically a home in the mountains which you can either hire entirely or in which you can hire a room and share with other skiers.
You can get chalets that sleep as few as 6 people but on average they will sleep between 10 and 16.
The majority of chalets are catered. We recommend this as the only way to go! Typical catered chalets have a in house chef who provides breakfast, afternoon tea and a three course evening meal with wine. The range and standard of the food is varied with options available for everyone. Simple low cost meals are available for the budget skier, while other chalets offer food prepared by professional chefs for those at the luxury end of the market.
As well as providing food, chalet hosts also fully clean up after you and even offer a washing service if it is required. Another great thing about ski chalets is that they are incredibly social, whether you have booked a whole chalet for the family or several rooms between yourself and other couples or friends. We are sure that the chance to gather around the burning log fire to discuss the day’s events is extremely appealing to many of you.
Be sure to tap into the knowledge of your chalet host. They are a great source of local knowledge whether you want to know about the best bars, secret runs or the weather forecast! They may even come out skiing with you if you ask them nicely!
Some chalets are designated as family ski chalets only. They offer child care through English speaking nannies either in the chalet (normally only large chalets) or very nearby. Chalets designated for families are great for parents who want minimum hassle and total peace of mind during their ski holiday.

Chalets are available throughout the world although the French Alps have the largest number of ski chalets with many resorts offering a good variety, ranging in size and price.
